After hosting the Worlds in 2014 and 2018, Busan is the next host of the Mid-Season Invitational 2023, a prestigious tournament of the most popular game in the world: League of Legends.

A renowned competition

Created in 2015 , the Mid-Season Invitational is the biggest event in the League of Legends game world. The Chinese teams of Royal Never Give Up, and Korean of SK Telecom T1, are the only two to have won the event twice. Here is the summary table of the last editions :

Everything you need to know about the 2023 edition

Regular of the events of eSport , Busan, the second largest city in South Korea will host the Mid-Season Invitational for the first time in the country's history, the third time for the continent after that of 2016 and that of 2019. Naz Aletaha , global head of LoL Esports explains why the 2023 edition is taking place there: "South Korea has been a pioneer in the esports industry for decades".

"Accustomed to esports events, Busan, the second largest city in South Korea, will host the Mid-Season Invitational for the first time in the country's history."

He goes on to say that they are delighted: "to honor its rich history in esports, the passion of Korean fans and the talent of professional teams by bringing MSI to Korea for the first time. Busan has been an amazing host for us during the Worlds 2014 and 2018 , and we can't wait to get back there to set the stage for the best League of Legends teams in the world to compete".

The different phases of the tournament

The tournament will be divided into three distinct phases, between the best teams from the 11 participating regions of the world, here they are in detail :

  • The Group Stage from May 10 to 15, 2023: the eleven teams will be divided into three groups, two of four and one of three, and each of them will play a match against the others.
  • The Rumble Stage from May 18 to 22, 2023: the two best teams in each group will move on to the Ramble Stage. The six teams will play a double tournament, and two of them will be eliminated.
  • knockout from May 27 to 29, 2023: the four remaining teams will be divided into two confrontations, and the winner of each of them will compete in the final, to try to obtain the 7th title of the MSI.
