JO Curling Prediction: betting on curling during the Winter Olympics!

A sport still too little known, even mocked by some, Curling has nevertheless been able to raise the crowds in recent years. The principle is simple, two teams compete and aim to getting as close as possible to the center from the target thanks to stones. These granite stones are thrown by one of the players on the ice, and his two teammates then sweep to readjust the trajectory and make the best possible throw.

There is not only artistic skiing, alpine skiing, ski jumping, snowboarding, biathlon, skating or ice hockey, and to wait between the summer Olympics in Tokyo and those in Paris, here is a small presentation of Curling Olympic Games .

The events of the 2023 Olympic curling games

This discipline has an almost unique functioning for Olympic events. The athletes compete in a mini championship, then, a play-off phase. Here is in detail everything you need to know about the operation of each of the 3 Olympic curling events 2023.

Women's Olympic curling

The women's event has a particularity. The 10 teams in the running are identical to those already present four years ago . Thus, Sweden, the USA, Canada, Russia, China, Switzerland, Japan, Denmark, Great Britain, and South Korea will all play against each other in a replay.

There is no tie and when two teams are still tied, an extension is given to separate the two teams.

Each victory earns a point, and the total of each of the teams is counted in a table. A classification is thus drawn, and in the event of a tie on points, it is the goal difference that will separate them .

The team that finishes first in the ranking will face the fourth in the semi-final, while, at the same time, the second will face the third. The winners will go directly to the final, while the losers will challenge each other in the small final to try to get a bronze medal.

Men's Olympic curling

The men's event of 2023 includes two team changes compared to the previous edition. Russia and China take the place of South Korea and Japan respectively 6th and 8th in Pyongyang. In addition to Russia and China, there will also be Norway, Canada , the USA, Switzerland, Sweden, Denmark, Italy, and Great Britain.

Unlike the ladies, the fourth and fifth in the ranking will challenge each other in a play-off , and the winner of this meeting, will challenge the 1st in the ranking. Nothing changes in the other semi-final, where the 2nd and the 3rd will decide which team will reach the final.

Mixed Olympic curling

New since the Olympic Games in Pyongyang four years ago, Mixed Curling was a discipline composed of a team of one man and one woman. During the previous edition, only 8 teams had taken part in the group matches, an injustice corrected the following year, in Beijing, where 10 teams will challenge each other in the first round.

Our Canadians will obviously be present, even favorites, and will face Norway, the United States, Switzerland, Sweden, Australia, Italy, Great Britain, the Czech Republic, and China during the group games. As for the men, a play-off match will take place between the fourth and the fifth in the ranking to know the name of the nation that will advance to the semi-finals.

Type of bet JO curling 2023?

Once you have chosen your selection(s), it is important to put them to good use, by choosing the right type of bet. Here are for you, some of the most famous and useful types of betting to bet on this discipline :

  • The Simple Bet : this is the most conventional way to bet on a match, but also, as the name suggests, the simplest. This type of bet allows you to invest on a single odds, of a single match, and your winnings will be equal to the amount of your bet, multiplied by the odds. For example, if you bet $100 on a 1.80 odds, you will win $180 (100 X 1.80 = 180).
  • The Combined Bet : this is the ticket preferred by the majority of bettors. It allows you to win more with a low bet. To do this, you must select several odds, which you put together on the same ticket, and each of the odds is multiplied by the others. However, if one of your selections is a loser, the entire ticket is lost. For example, if you bet $100 on a 1.50 odds, a 2 odds, and a 1.80 odds, you will win $540 (100 X 1.5 X 2 X 1.8 = 540).
  • The Multiple Bet : this is one of the least used solutions, wrongly. To do this, select several odds, between 3 and 8 and indicate the minimum number of odds that will have to be validated. The bookmaker will then automatically schedule several multiple bets for you. This will prevent you from losing everything because of a single bad match, and will also allow you to use your instincts on high odds. The more good selections there are, the more money you will earn!
  • The Bet number of points : beyond the result, it is possible to bet on the number of points entered. Indeed, the number of points vary depending on the matches, and the best bookmakers will offer you the opportunity to bet on these results.

Analyze the best curling teams & players

To give you a maximum chance of winning your curling JO prediction, here is our selection of the best players and the best Curling nations. These are names to watch out for at least, and to know for sure.

Best curling teams

If we are looking for a global reference , it is indeed our Canadians who come back first. Less prominent four years ago, they had only taken one medal, in Gold, in the new mixed competition. The 2014 Olympics had even seen the double coronation of Team Canada , who had won the gold medal in the men's event, and in the women's event.

Sweden next, and without a doubt the top European nation to follow. Gold and Silver medalist four years ago, they will undoubtedly compete with our Canadians, and they will clearly be to be watched. The Swedes are the second most successful nation in Curling during the Olympics, thanks to their presence in the first two places in all the Olympics since 2006 as well as their women's title.

Switzerland, Norway, Great Britain, the USA, and Switzerland will also be on the lookout and should take several medals. On the side of good surprises, we will have to keep an eye on the Asian nations Japan and South Korea, which could well make their place on the podium, or even China, boosted by their audience.

Best curling players

Several curlers and curlers have forever marked the history of the sport. For this time, we are going to introduce you to the most influential curler and curler on the planet. It turns out that our selection is 100% Canadian. In women, Kaitlyn Lawes won the Gold medal twice at the Winter Olympics, in the women's category in 2014, and in the mixed doubles in 2018. She also won the world curling championship in 2018, after finishing second in 2015.

In men, John Morris is THE reference. The Winnipeg native won gold in the men's Olympic tournament in 2010, then in the mixed doubles in 2018, in a duet with Kaitlyn Lawes.

In addition to his Olympic performances, he won the Grand Forks Worlds in 2008, finished second on those of 2009 in Moncton, then third on those of Halifax in 2015. Among women, another curler could once again be the talk of the town : Agnes Knochenhauer . The Swede had won silver in 2014, then Gold in Pyongyang, each time in the women's Olympic category.

Frequently asked questions about curling

Still too often mysterious, this sport brings many questions. To do this, we decided to answer the three most common questions posed by novice bettors.

❓ What is the name of a curling player?

It is difficult to find the answer to this question, and yet, there is a name to define Curling players. Everything comes from an English derivative, and for a long time, we didn't have an exact name to define it. Today, a name has been approved, that of curler for men, and curler for ladies .

❓ Why sweep the ice in curling?

One of the specificities of this sport is of course the use of the broom. Indeed, while one of the curlers throws the stone, the others then use a broom to influence the game. The broom has two main uses, the first to slow down, and the second to deflect the trajectory .

Indeed, the friction of the broom on the ice removes the upper part and therefore slows down the speed of the stone. The other effect is for the trajectory, because the scanning makes it possible to trace a kind of path that the stone will then follow. In summary, beyond the throw, there is another tactical aspect, that of the sweep, which makes it possible to influence the speed and the trajectory of the stone.

❓ What is the best action during a curling match?

If we talk about legendary international matches and competitions, the South Korean performance of 2018 will remain for sure in history. Never before reached the semi-finals, the South Koreans had finished first in the group stage, having notably beaten the terrible Canadians (8 – 6).

Having reached the semi-finals for the first time in their history, they beat the Japanese 8 – 7 after extra time, after losing to the same team 7 – 5 in the group match. The magnificent course stops however in the final, after a heavy defeat 8 – 3 against the Swedes. A final duel with the scent of regret, because South Korea had beaten them on the 8th day of group 8 – 7.

You will be able to find the most beautiful curling actions on your favorite TV channels. In France, you will be able to follow all the latest news on France, 2, but don't count on NHK , because the Japanese channel will not participate in it.

Our prediction winner curling JO

To give you a better idea of the forces involved, here are the predictions of the editorial staff on each of the Olympic events of 2023.

Men's Olympic curling prognosis

Champion in 2006, champion in 2010, champion in 2014, the Canadians advance as a favorite. Four years ago, and despite a second place at the end of the group matches, the reds and whites could not do better than a 4th place, after a semi-final defeat against the United States (5 - 3), and a small final against Switzerland (7 – 5). Revanchists, they should break everything in Beijing.

Women's Olympic curling prognosis

Champions in Turin in 2006, champions in 2010, finalists in 2014, then champions again in 2018, the Swedish curlers should make the powder talk again. Thanks in particular to Agnès Knochenhauer, they will try to win a fourth Olympic title.

Mixed olympic curling prognosis

Very competent in men, and in women, Canada is the favorite , especially as the defending champion. Four years ago, it was the two Canadian stars Kaitlyn Lawes and John Morris who were selected, and who will surely be reappointed once again. During the Olympics in Pyongyang, they had lost their first match against Norway 9 – 6, before taking everything in their path, until the final and a master class against Switzerland (10 – 3).
