Rafael Dos Anjos was born in the Brazilian favelas. As a brawler child, he stops fighting in the streets, after enrolling in Jiu Jitsu. He gradually drifts into MMA, then lands in the UFC in 2008, after having a series of 11 – 2, including 9 wins in a row. Resistant and very good on the ground, Dos Anjos remains less strong than others with his fists and won only 5 fights by KNOCKOUT . He remains notably on two wins in a row by unanimous decision, against Paul Felder and Renato Moicano.

Rafael Fiziev was born in Kazakhstan, but is a citizen of Kyrgyzstan. Not passionate about combat sports, his father forces his hand, and following bullying in college, he seriously takes up Muay Thai. Following a series of 6 consecutive victories, the UFC recruits him, but his first fight does not go as planned, and Magomed Mustafaev knocks him out in just 1 minute 26 in St. Petersburg. Since then, he has won 5 times, for a final record of 11 wins in 12 games.

The fight was first supposed to take place at the end of February, but following a visa problem for Fiziev, then because of a positive covid test, the match was postponed several times.
