The purpose of the game in Poker

It is possible to play poker in free or fun mode, but the real excitement of poker lies in the possibility of winning money. Your goal in poker is to dominate your opponents at the table and take as much money from them as possible without losing your bankroll.

It is therefore up to you to make the best possible combination with the cards you have, to know when to bet, throw or bluff to increase your bankroll. The one who wins a poker tournament is simply the player who has accumulated the most chips, so it is essential to manage your efforts well at the table to last as long as possible. The poker rooms all offer free tournaments or freeroll to allow you to practice, this is a very useful tool to get started without getting screwed.

The hierarchy of poker hands

It is essential to know at your fingertips the value of the cards and the possible combinations in poker. It may happen that you make mistakes due to fatigue or the speed of the game, in this case you will not be able to go back and mention your mistake to cancel the move. We invite you to memorize the following or print it out to play online and thus avoid beginner mistakes.

  • The strongest card : or high card. When the players do not have a winning combination, the strongest card in their deck is chosen to designate the winner of the move.
  • The Pair : these are two cards of the same value (example: two Aces or two Kings).
  • The Double Pair : these are two pairs (example: 2 Aces and 2 Kings).
  • The Three of a Kind : these are three cards of identical value (example: three Kings, three 10s).
  • The Fifth : these are five cards that follow each other (example: 9, 10, Jack, Queen, King).
  • flush : these are five cards of the same suit (example: five tile cards or five clover cards).
  • full : it is a pair and a three-of-a-kind.
  • The Square : these are four cards of identical value (example: four Aces).
  • The Straight Flush : these are five cards that follow each other and of the same suit.
  • The Royal Flush : this is the best possible combination in poker. The player here has the combination: Ace, King, Queen, Jack, and 10 of the same suit (example: Ace of Spades, King of Spades, Queen of Spades, Jack of Spades and 10 of Spades).

The operation of the poker table

Here we explain the basics of how the game is played at the poker table. Each action is indeed codified and it is necessary to respect the functioning of the poker game to be well perceived by your opponents.

  • The dealer deals the cards. In a Texas Hold'em poker game, each player receives only two hole cards.
  • The small blind and the big blind, which are mandatory bets, are paid by the two players to the dealer's left.
  • The players express their action in a clockwise direction. The player can follow and pay the amount of the big blind, raise by betting double the big blind or discard his cards so as not to commit to the move.
  • Once each player has made his decision, the dealer takes out 3 cards: the flop. These are common cards.
  • After the distribution of the flop, a new round of bidding begins. Players can bet, discard their card or check.
  • A fourth common card is drawn: the turn and a new round of bidding begins.
  • A fifth common card is drawn: the river. A final round of bidding begins. In the end, a player can win the move if all the other players fold or the players who are still in the move show their card on the table. The strongest combination is of course the one that makes the player win.

Depending on the poker variants, the course of the poker game differs but here are the general rules that apply to most types of poker. Good luck and have a great game!
